Latest Blog: Recap of FTOPS/ My First Blog

Fresh off his January “The Well” post that appeared on PocketFives.com, Anderson broke down his ride through the 15th Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS). He finished 10th in Event #2 of FTOPS XV, a $256 Omaha High-Low Knockout tournament. After sitting in third place on the leaderboard with 11 players remaining, Anderson dropped to seventh with 10 to go. He recalled his demise from the event: “I had A2K7 (King high hearts) and had to reshove and got called by A279 (Ace high hearts) and he rivered the nut flush and there was no low draw so gg me 10th place for $2,500. I could’ve folded to try to make the ft but that’s not the way I play poker and A2xx is pretty much the nuts in Omaha Hi Lo.” Anderson also sent a few well-deserved shout outs to his comrades who cashed during FTOPS XV.

We’re nearing the home stretch in the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) L.A. Poker Classic. The $10,000 buy-in tournament saw its money bubble burst on Sunday and a champion will be crowned three days from now. In the meantime, members of the online poker community are jockeying for position at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, including Dan Wretchy Martin, who sits at #10 on the leaderboard entering Day 4 on Monday. Former WPT champion Mark Newhouse paces the field with a stack of 498,000, while Martin is at 335,000.

The money bubble popped yesterday when Thomas Fuller exited in 73rd place. He was all-in pre-flop with A-K against pocket aces, ultimately failing to hit a gutshot straight draw on the turn or river. Every player remaining is assured at least $18,000, while the top two players will earn more than $1 million. Fuller’s elimination ended play for the day on Sunday in Level 15, when blinds were 1,200-2,400 with a 400 ante.

Taylor taypaur Paur, the chip leader entering Day 3 of the WPT L.A. Poker Classic, owned the 14th largest stack when play wrapped up. He was at 322,500, down slightly after doubling up Mark Kamran, who flopped a set. Paur will take a seat at Table 22 on Monday, where his company will include Team PokerStars Pro member Vanessa Rousso and fellow online poker player David Bakes Baker (pictured at left).

Barry barryg1 Greenstein was eliminated late in the day after shoving pre-flop with pocket nines. An opponent with pocket jacks made the call and Greenstein could not draw out. Also exiting was Jonathan FatalError Aguiar, who picked an inopportune time to shove with J-7. In a similar fate to Greenstein, a player with pocket jacks called and neither improved.

Of the 72 players remaining in contention, six are women. Lauren locoenlacabeza Kling is holding at 44,000 chips, the 67th largest stack in the room. Meanwhile, UB.com pro Annie Duke (pictured at right) has the 15th largest count at 321,000.

Baker is the tournament’s short stack at 17,000, or about seven big blinds. Baker doubled up Gavin Griffin early on with pocket sixes against Griffin’s A-7. An ace hit on the flop and Griffin held on for the win. Griffin was later eliminated with K-J against pocket eights just before the money bubble.

Jason treysfull21 Mercier (pictured at left), who made his debut on GSN’s “High Stakes Poker” last night, was ousted after his pocket nines could not overcome the pocket aces of Tim Begley. Mercier’s opponent flopped the nut flush draw and made a set on the river to send him home. Also departing was Adam Roothlus Levy, who 3bet all-in with 10-8 and found himself dominated by pocket kings. The flop came 10-high to make matters interesting for the UB.com pro, but no further help came on the turn or river.
